Thief Steals Raffle Item Meant To Help Sand Springs Employee In Need Of Kidney Transplant

Employees at a Sand Springs salon are furious after someone smashed a window and stole a toolset that was supposed to be part of a fundraiser.

The staff is raising money to help a co-worker who is in need of a kidney transplant.

Shelby Slankard is a part of the family in charge of Scissors Family Hair Cutters in Sand Springs.

Security cameras caught someone breaking in just after midnight on Wednesday morning.

“I just dropped by kid off at school and I was on my way here and I get a call from my co-worker that the glass had been broken,” said Slankard.

She said this is the third time the business has been broken into, but this one really stings.

The thief got away with a toolset that was supposed to be raffled off. The money is being raised for an employee who has worked at the salon for more than 30 years who now needs a kidney transplant.

“It was just frustrating that somebody would be bold enough to take from a cause like that,” said Slankard.

Nearly $2,000 worth of raffle tickets were also swiped during the break-in. Thankfully, another employee found the bucket of tickets dumped near a construction site.

Other items, including a new television, are also part of the raffle. The staff plans to move the other items to a safer location in the meantime.

Anyone with information on the break-in should call Sand Springs Police.
