City Leaders To Attend Groundbreaking For New Broken Arrow Senior Center

City leaders in Broken Arrow are set to take part in a groundbreaking ceremony for a new senior citizen center. The new building will be right across from the existing senior center.

The more than $3.5 million project was paid for through a 2018 bond issue passed by voters.

Construction includes multipurpose rooms, a theater room and an exercise room. A new parking lot will also have multiple uses once it is put in.

According to Parks, more than 2,500 senior citizens from Broken Arrow and surrounding communities take part in activities.

“We’re known as a young community and we have a lot of youth organizations but we also like to take care of our seniors as they get to be 55 and older,” said Councilman Johnnie Parks. “It’s going to be a great area for our Zumba classes and our line dancing classes because there’s going to be large rooms inside there.”

Construction is expected to take about a year. The groundbreaking is scheduled for Tuesday at 10 a.m.

The city said a live stream of the groundbreaking will be available on their Facebook Page.
