Residents near the Arkansas River in south Broken Arrow are being urged to take flooding precautions. Due to projected Arkansas River water levels, areas in southern Broken Arrow could see the worst of it.

The city issued an Emergency Declaration due to flooding Thursday night. They are encouraging voluntary evacuations from property within the 100-year flood plain, and specifically an area south of Jasper (131st) St. between Garnett Road to 23rd Street (County Line Road).

Residents are asked to take several days of clothing, food, medication, pets - and supplies for pets. People should place valuables up high, charge cell phones, and take video or pictures of your home for insurance purposes.

"Once evacuated, residents may not be able to enter evacuated areas," a news release stated.

Sand and bags are available at the Liberty Trail parking lot on the east side of Elm Place near the Creek Turnpike. Entry to the trailhead is off Miami Street. Residents will need to fill their own sand bags using their own shovels

Officials say the following areas are within the potential flood plain and should take precautions.

South of 131st street which includes Indian Springs Sports Complex as well as Indian Springs Golf Course has see flooding.

Areas near Haikey and Elm Creeks could also see potential flooding.

Broken Arrow Police began regular checks of water levels late Tuesday night and an automated phone call to residents will go out when levels become a concern.
